Cameroon upset Tunisia as Egypt and Algeria claimed first win at African Olympic Qualifier

Yaoundé, Cameroon , February 12, 2016- Hosts Cameroon started their campaign at the 2016 Women's African Olympic Qualifiers victorious after they cruised past struggling Tunisia 3-2 (25-20, 25-20, 29-31, 21-25, 15-6), while giants Egypt and Algeria went to the first win in Pool B of the competition held at Palais des Sports in Yaoundé, Cameroon on Friday.
 
 The home team used well the home crowd to come back and win the grueling tiebreaker 3-2 (25-20, 25-20, 29-31, 21-25, 15-6). Egypt crashed Uganda  3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-19), while Algeria downed 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-10).
 
 The opening ceremony was attended by Cameroonian Minister of Sports and physical education Bidoung Mkpatt, National Olympic Committee President Hamad Malboum, Control Committee President Majore Timba and Local Organising committee President Julien Serge.
 
Egypt v Uganda 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-19)
 
Egypt upset resurgent Uganda 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-19) in Pool B match lasting 61 minutes.  After Egypt started aggressively in the first and second sets, Uganda emerged in the third set where they led several times before Egypt returned back to their rhythm at the end of the set to win in straight.
 
 Opposite Aya El Shami led the Egyptian scorers with 12 points followed by outside hitter Nahla Abdelfattah 10. Uganda's Peace Busingye led her team with 6 points. Egypt overhhelmed the net with 9/4 advantage in blocking and 39/13 in spiking beside leading in serving 3/1. 
 
Algeria v Botswana 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-10)
 
Algeria overcame Botswana 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-10) in the second match of Pool B lasting 72 minutes. The Botswana team was very competitive in the first and second set and frequently led in the 2nd set before the Algerian team used their experience to win the crucial points and lead in both sets. The third set showed complete dominance for the Algerian team to finish the match in straight sets.
 
 The Algerian outside hitter Safia Boukhima led her team scorers with 18 points and played a great role in her team's victory followed be her teammate Yasmine Abdelrahim 11 points. Botswana's big gum Gasekonwe Gaoleseleise contributed 8 points in her team loss
 
Cameroon v Tunisia 3-2 (25-20, 25-20, 29-31, 21-25, 15-6)
 
Cameroon struggled for 128 minutes to overwhelm Tunisia 3-2 (25-20, 25-20, 29-31, 21-25, 15-6) in Pool A. After Cameroon went easily to 2-0 with a group of successful attacks and combinations, Tunisia came back aggressively after the coach replaced the main setter Maroua Boughanmi by the substitute Nihel Kebaier who led her team to come back to 2-2 after great struggle in the third set which was the longest in the competition so far. The Tunisian performance decreased, while Cameroon regained their solid blockers to win the tiebreak widely 15-6.
 
 Cameroon highly dominated the net in blocking making the competition team best blocking perormance scoring 19 points from stuff blocks against 6 for Tunisia. Moma Laetitia led the winner's scorers with 20 points, while Rahma Agrebi led the losers with 11.
