Kenya v Egypt, Algeria v Cameroon in Women's Olympic Qualifier semifinal

Yaoundé, Cameroon , February 14, 2016- Kenya and Algeria led their preliminary round pools at the 2016 Women's African Olympic Qualifier following their decisive wins over rivals Cameroon and Egypt respectively in day 3 matches held at Palais des Spots Hall in Yaoundé, Cameroon on Sunday.

 
 Kenya's opposite Lydia Maiyo led her team past Cameroon 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-9) in a thrilling encounter in front of full house supporting the home team to lead Pool A. Algeria beat their North African neighbours 3-1 (18-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23) to lead Pool B.
 
 Now Kenya meet Egypt and Algeria play Cameroon in the semifinal matches on Monday.
 
 In the third match of the day Botswana set the first win against Uganda 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 10-25, 15-11) in the third place decider of Pool B.
 
 The winners Botswana face Tunisia the third of Pool A in the 5th place match on Monday.
 
Algeria v Egypt  3-1 (18-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23)
 
Algeria led Pool B after they overwhelmed Egypt 3-1 (18-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23) in the decider for the leader of the pool after both teams already secured semifinal tickets. Egypt led comfortably in the first set before Algeria came back aggressively to win 3 successive set with their tight  block and successful attacks specially through the outside hitter Yasmine Abdelrrahim. Lydia Oulmou led Algerian scorers with 10 points, while Aya El Shami led the losers with 11 points.
 
 With the win Algeria improved their win- loss ratio to 3-0 to finish first of the pool. Egypt dropped to 2-1 to end the preliminary round in the second position. The losers were better in blocking having the advantage 10/5, while Algeria had better serving gaining 5-2 advantages in ace services.    
 
Kenya v Cameroon  3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-9)
 
Kenya defeated Cameroon 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-9) to top Pool A with a win- loss ratio of 2-0. Cameroon dropped to 1-1 as both teams already confirmed semifinal berth. Kenya led pool A with 6 points followed by Cameroon 2 points and Tunisia 1 point.  
 
 Kenya controlled the match through their dominance in attacks specially through the opposite attacker Lydia Maiyo who led the match scorers with 20 points aided by Lusenaka who scored impressive 15 points. Stephanie Fotoso led the losers as she contributed 12 points for her side.
 
Botswana v Uganda 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 10-25, 15-11)
 
 Botswana beat Uganda in a long Marathon 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 10-25, 15-11) to finish 3rd of Pool B. Uganda started in high performance to win the first set, but Botswana rebounded quickly to 2 successive sets and lead 2-1 after they controlled the match. Uganda surprisingly came to the game in the fourth set to extend the match to tiebreaker. Uganda early led 6-1 in tiebreak before Botswana bravely fought to win 15-11.
 
 Gasekgonwe led Botswana scorers with 17 points , while Peace Busingye led Uganda with 8 points. Botswana finished the pool matches with 1-2 record to finish third ahead of Uganda (0-3).
