After a slight rest, the Cadet National Women's Volleyball Team is starting the second phase of its first grouping for the World Volleyball Championship scheduled to take place in Egypt in September this Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Compex . According to Emile Tonton, the team's head coach, this second part of the camp will focus on the complex 2 of individual skills focused on counter-defense and counter-attack service. The objective of the technical managers is to establish a tactical base on the group in training. "During the next five days of the internship, we will focus on a strategic theme: attack. You know that the fundamentals of volleyball are first and foremost service after, then reception and finally attack. We're going to give the kids some tactics so they can make a difference during the games," explains Emile Tonton.
When asked about the mid-term progress of this first group, the young Lionesses appreciate it. "The internship is going on very well. From the beginning, the coaches insisted on the individual technique of reception, movement and attack. This helps us a lot in the process of improving these techniques and especially to know the potential of our teammates. This will be crucial in forming the group that will defend the nation's colours in Egypt," said Ruth Bibinbe, captain of the Lionesses U-17. In the same vein, Gaëlle Tchuembou, receptionist and striker states: "The internship is going on well. There is a very good atmosphere in the group. We try to apply and respect the instructions given by the instructors about individual techniques. I can tell you that since the beginning, I have greatly improved my service and my travel in the field. That's how I intend to continue working to be among the players selected for the finals."
According to Emile Tonton, the holding of this pre-training camp was motivated by the observation of the blatant lack of basic individual skills among young players. It is therefore a matter for the technical staff to shape the players and trim the technical waste that could harm this team, which is aiming for the podium at the world championship. As a reminder, the women's national cadet team completed the first part of its first grouping on Monday, December 31, 2018. During the latter, emphasis was placed on the revision of complex 1 of individual skills (service-reception-pass-attack-pass-and-support group). Also, the technical staff focused on the ball cuffs at each warm-up phase.
Thus, in a progressive way, the 21 players in the training camp went from one against one to six against six, including two against two, three against three and four against four. Started on 27 December last, this first grouping ends on Saturday, 5 January 2019.
